Young Artist Abby Metzner Creates at The Amazeum
How often do you see an aspiring graphic designer gain professional experience at the young age of 14? Although we had chosen a design for our 7th Birthday T-Shirt contest, we were so blown away by the talent of Abby Metzner that we knew we had to utilize her design skills in some way. After collaborating with our retail and marketing team, we came up with a solution. Abby came by and worked with the Amazeum’s very talented Production Artist Christine Pendry to work together in creating a sticker that represents the best qualities of the Scott Family Amazeum - authenticity, learning, and a little wacky fun!
Meet Abby as she worked through the day being introduced to new Adobe software programs and Amazeum branding:
What’s your name?
How old are you, what grade are you in?
I’m 14, and in 8th Grade.
I’m homeschooled but I take classes online with zoom.
What are some of your hobbies?
Obviously art, all kinds of visual art, photography, I'd love to learn more about animation but I haven’t done any yet.
I enjoy dabbling in writing and all kinds of creative things.
I would love to do something, actually kind of what you guys do - work with some kind of graphic (design) or some kind of environment like this. I might also like to do something in business.
How do you know about the Amazeum?
My family comes here a bunch, we all have passes, there are six kids in my family, so we love it here. We’ve been coming here several years now, my mom just showed up here one day and that’s how I found out about it.
I really like watching my siblings play. I like following them around and watching them in the log cabin and gathering eggs, I think that’s my favorite part.
How long have you been an artist?
For as long as I can remember, crayon drawings when I was little, I’ve always been interested in art.
Are you new to digital art?
Fairly new, like within maybe 2 years. I think I got my first Wacom tablet around 2 years ago.
What inspired your design? How do you feel about it?
I sketched a bunch of random things, I knew from the start that I really wanted it to be specifically something Amazeum with some kind of exhibits in it. I thought that would be the coolest way and I got input from my family, and I really like the way it turned out.
What’s your takeaway from working with Christine today?
The first is to save a working file. And I really just enjoyed being in the office and seeing a professional at work.
