Scott Family Amazeum Announces 2016 Summer Camp Lineup

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (April 6, 2016) — Today, the Scott Family Amazeum announced its lineup of 2016 summer camps for children ranging from six years to 11 years.

“We’re looking forward to diving in and learning with our young explorers and spies this summer,” said Mindy Porter, director of education at the Amazeum. “Our team has developed innovative programming that will engage kids and give them the confidence to explore STEAM fields on their own.”

Camps will kick off the week of June 13 and run weekly through August 5, with the exception of the week of July 4. Each week will feature a different theme designed to incorporate hands-on STEAM learning, using the Amazeum as a platform.

Registration for members is $250 and $300 for non-members. All registrations must be made and paid in advance. Registration is only available on amazeum.org. Each camp will feature two simultaneous sessions, one for campers six to eight years old, the other for those nine to 11 years old. Camp will be open from 9 am until 2 pm.

Camps featured this summer:

  • June 13 – 17, Tech Wizard Camp: Come invent, explore, take apart and put together all sorts of fantastical gizmos. Who needs magical powers to do extraordinary things? Before you know it, you’ll be a tech wizard.
  • June 20 – 24, Lost Island Camp: You must use limited supplies, your best survival skills and of course...creativity!  Let's work together to create a new community and overcome exciting challenges before we are (hopefully) rescued. 
  • Jun 27 – July 1, Secret Agents Camp: With gadgets, nerve, speed, and imagination, you’ll learn how to save the world every time. Daily clearance level challenges and social play experiences will prove that you fit the profile to be an awesome secret agent.
  • July 11 – 15, Tech Wizard Camp Encore: a second session of Tech Wizard Camp, not a continuation
  • July 25 – 29, Girls’ STEAM Machine Camp, The Amazeum is recruiting adventurous girls with a knack for time travel. Whether we journey to ancient kingdoms or colonies in space, it’s up to us girls to use STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) to problem solve, invent, and make history!
  • August 1 – 5, Lost Island Camp Encore: a second session of Lost Island Camp, not a continuation.

The week of July 18 will feature a special collaboration between Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Scott Family Amazeum. “How It’s Made” will offer participants the opportunity to use different techniques and materials to make extraordinary ordinary items. Campers will spend time at each museum every day of the camp.

“How It’s Made” will be held July 18-22, from 9:30 am until 3 pm each day. Registration for this special camp is $265 for those who are members of at least one museum, and $335 for those who are not members of either facility. To participate in this camp, reservations can be made on the Crystal Bridges website.

Registration is limited for each camp session, so those interested in attending are encouraged to do so early.
