Pop-Up Adventure Playground Comes to the Amazeum

Child Makers Encouraged to Build Unique Play Space

BENTONVILLE, Ark. (Feb. 27, 2018) — The Scott Family Amazeum hosts a Pop-Up Adventure Playground from March 17 to 25 in the outdoor PlayScape area of the museum.

Pop-Up Adventure Playground is an opportunity for children of all ages to make, create, build, remake and adapt a play space built with found objects and common materials. Children construct, de-construct, and re-construct, in the process learning problem-solving, collaboration, and STEAM concepts through play.

“We’re excited to have Pop-Up Adventure Playground take shape in our PlayScape,” said Paul Stolt, Marketing Manager at the Amazeum. “It’s rare these days that kids get to just imagine, create, and play without adults directing every step. Adults support kids by posing questions, facilitating and monitoring the process, but kids do the work. Play is the natural state for kids, and in Pop-Up Adventure Playground, kids are allowed time for 100% certified, organic, free-range play.”

Popular in Europe, adventure playgrounds are found at museums and cities across the continent. The movement to bring this type of self-directed, creative play to the United States is relatively new, but gaining momentum as more grown-ups begin to recognize the value in allowing kids to play freely in a safe environment. Stocked with loose parts (cardboard boxes, fabric, tape, string, straw bales, tires, and materials found in nature), Pop-Up Adventure playgrounds gently introduce themes of risk and freedom by welcoming people of all ages and abilities to play together.
