Scott Family Amazeum a Key Part of First International Science Center & Science Museum Day

November 9, 2016

In the largest joint project ever launched by the world’s science centers and museums, Scott Family Amazeum will join more than 250 other institutions and hundreds of thousands of people on every inhabited continent to celebrate the first International Science Center & Science Museum Day (ISCSMD) on Thursday, November 10.

“Northwest Arkansas, and the state as a whole, is boldly expanding its making, technology and science education in a variety of ways,” said Sam Dean, executive director of the Amazeum. “We offer an opportunity for early learners to grow up with making, technology and science in a fun and informal way that engages the whole family. We are helping to raise lifelong science learners.”

ISCSMD activities at Amazeum and locations around the world represent a united international effort to raise awareness and encourage action towards global sustainability, focusing on the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which seek to end poverty, fight inequalities, and tackle climate change, while ensuring that no one is left behind.

Amazeum will be offer several pop-up activities throughout the day to support SDG 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. Additionally, the museum will offer a family-led STEAM Studio from 10 am until noon, near the Building Buddies special exhibit. The Amazeum is open from 10 am until 5 pm on Thursday, November 10.

Visitors in Arkansas will join hundreds of thousands of people around the world visiting other institutions during the global event, who will be engaging in their own actions, including science shows and experiments at the Discovery Center of Springfield, Springfield Mo., Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Dallas, Texas; Exploratorium, San Francisco, Calif.; and many, many more around the globe.
