SVP, Retail Development, Walmart Team Lead Viacom/Nickelodeon Consumer Products 

Ken Mantel is energized by building and leading high performance teams, disruptive innovation, and mobilizing the organization around new ideas.  Prior to joining Nickelodeon, Ken led the Walmart Creative Marketing team with responsibility for in store environment and customer communications, and before that, led environmental design for the L’Oreal USA Consumer Products divisions.

He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from Loyola University of Chicago.  Ken works on numerous community initiatives and currently serves as Board President for the Scott Family Amazeum.

Kelly Carlson has served on the Amazeum board for the past 3 years. With a day job as a commercial banker, serving on the board allows Kelly to support a museum that has become much more than just a building, but a way of thinking within the community.  Having two young girls at home the mission of creative thinking and problem solving are things he incorporates in everyday life. Kelly has a passion for active learning through the maker movement and STEAM.

Kathleen Dalton earned an engineering degree from Kansas State University and began a 33-year career with Procter & Gamble starting as a manufacturing engineer before transitioning to human resources. She joined Furniture Factory Outlet in 2018 as Vice President of Human Resources.  Kathleen is passionate about improving opportunities in STEAM for women by building confidence, capabilities, and curiosity in girls and young women. She believes the Amazeum’s programs and facilities spark imagination and curiosity to understand why and how things work in a fun and confidence building way.  She and her husband, Tim, have two boys.

Jill Grimsley, Mitchell Williams Attorneys

 

Jill Grimsley is a long-time resident of Bentonville, Arkansas.  She is an attorney at Mitchell, Williams, Selig, Gates & Woodyard, P.L.L.C., where her law practice focuses on financial transactions.  She is the longest-serving member of the Board of Directors of The Scott Family Amazeum, and is past-president of the Board.  Jill has three children, who all love coming to the Amazeum.  They are always interested in building, making, and creating.

Bill Akins is the Chief of Staff/Director of Data Planning and Communications for Walmart Labs and lives by a very important mantra: “If we do not effectively balance embracing all aspects of technology with ‘being human’ then we fail in many aspects of life.” As a father of two very inquisitive boys who always ask the “why” about how things work in the midst of forever tinkering, Bill has dedicated his life as a parent and innovator to creating technology that engages and inspires versus just being staple-on digital bling. His involvement with the Amazeum is fueled by this approach, and stands as a testament of how children and adults alike can learn through play.

Michelle Hayward is a curious, creative educator, friend, wife, mother and nana who thrives on teaching, learning, creating and playing. She is the Executive Director for Elementary and Middle Level Education for Fayetteville Public Schools where she empowers and encourages teachers and leaders throughout the region to adopt innovation and best practices. Her life’s work is to create a legacy through building culture in her personal and professional life focused on people. She carries this to her work with the Amazeum and seeks to inspire, motivate, teach, and play on the leading edge of creative thought as part of the museum’s leadership team.

Kevin Scherer, Tyson Foods

 

Kevin Scherer directs a workplace education program at Tyson Foods, called Upward Academy. It provides on-site educational opportunities, like ESL, GED, citizenship, and other functional literacy classes, to over 105,000 front-line team members. Whether at Tyson Foods or the Amazeum, he is passionate about providing accessible learning experiences for people and communities who have missed out on these life-changing opportunities.

Matthew Hegi, JB Hunt

 

Matthew Hegi is currently the Vice President of Finance, Assistant Corporate Controller for J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. and is a certified public accountant. Matthew and his wife Sarah, a Bentonville native, live in Springdale, Arkansas. He has three children, Emma, Charlie, and George. The 20 year age gap between his oldest and youngest child has given Matthew a much appreciated extended window of observation and participation in childhood development, resulting in the Amazeum being a valued asset for himself, his family and community.

The Scott Family Amazeum is a hands-on, interactive museum for children and families located in Bentonville, Ark. A museum with a foundation in the arts and sciences, the Amazeum encourages creativity, curiosity and community through exhibits, educational collaboration, and programs, workshops and camps. Amazeum experiences include a climbable tree canopy, indoor cave, tinkering hub, nearly one acre of outdoor space, and ever-evolving daily pop-up activities.
