Tinkerfest 4 Connects Families with Regional Maker Community

The Scott Family Amazeum will host their fourth annual Tinkerfest on Saturday, October 7, 2017, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. This one-day festival celebrates the creative, curious, and innovative spirit in everyone. Tinkerfest is free for members. Non-members pay regular admission to the museum to access Tinkerfest activities.

What started as an event to introduce the Scott Family Amazeum to the local community has grown into the largest convening of makers, tinkerers, artists, creatives, and DIY enthusiasts in the four-state area. The event features hands-on, minds-engaged activities to promote not only making and tinkering, but problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills in a fun environment.

Returning to Tinkerfest this year is the popular car take apart activity. This year tinkerers from four to 104 will be able to disassemble two cars during the day with the guidance of skilled mechanics. Other activity stations include 3D printing, technology dissection and upcycling, other unique maker-focused activities, and interactive activities created by students at regional schools.

New to Tinkerfest this year is Fix It Café sponsored Rogers Experimental House. Volunteer engineers, makers and tinkerers at Fix It Café will work with guests to diagnose and attempt to repair broken small appliances, gadgets, and toys. Participants must carry items into Fix It Café. No large appliances, phones, software, or computers accepted.

Tinkerfest brings together craftspeople, educators, artists, engineers, scientists, and families to learn together. Tinkerfest exposes young and old to science, technology, engineering, art and math in novel and interesting ways to promote critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity, as well as introduce concepts of sustainability, reuse and repurposing items. Whether you are an avid tinkerer or beginner, Tinkerfest is a great event for families to learn, experiment, and play together.
